The East Elmbridge Foodbank was first established in 2012 as part of the NESTA funded Lower Green Neighbourhood Challenge.
It was supported by a group of people from local churches who recognised that, despite the affluence of the Borough (often referred to as the ‘Beverly Hills of Britain), there were many people who were struggling on low incomes for whom food poverty was a reality.
The Foodbank was originally located at the Lower Green Community Centre but in 2013 it transferred to All Saints, Weston Green when it became part of the Trussell Trust network.
In 2016, the Foodbank moved to its present location at Esher Green Baptist Church, where the main store is located. We currently run two sessions a week – one from Esher and the other from St Peter’s Church in West Molesey.
The Foodbank is now under the governance of the PCC of St Peter’s West Molesey and is run by a Management Team made up of a small number of volunteers and our Foodbank Coordinator, Catherine Heavens. We have a team of volunteers who help organise our food donations and run our foodbank sessions.
We maintain links with all the local churches and other statutory and voluntary organisations in East Elmbridge and are very grateful for their support.
